Qu 2) Header plugin : would it be possible to create a plugin that would enable a custom header ? or is this something which the program structure does not cater for ?

From our evaluation to date, Smath is an outstanding program, but the ability to have a custom header in order to make the calcs look professional is something that is really important to us.

Simple :
1. on a blank sheet, paste your company logo ... etc all as you wish.
2. Saves as Template ... and that's it
3. You could have an image as background. That is contrary to visual
Engineering works and it consumes times to keep work sheet updeted.

Thanks, yes this is the basic approach I'm looking for.

Can you elaborate on the steps to create this please :
1) Load a new workbook, & do the page setup
2) Save the file & set the file properties
3) Insert a background image with the desired layout (as a png file)
..
however, beyond this I'm not quite sure how you've used the image region, & get the project info etc propogating to other pages, etc

Thanks
Geoff

Take a blank sheet, paste you Company logo
Compose the text common to all design, save as template.
Recall this template for each design items of the project.
If you don't have a Company logo, then make one.
No matter your logo is *,BMP or *PNG .
If you have one already existing, please post it and tell
the size you want ... I will just plug in IrfanView, resize resample.
Will be of utmost quality ! Few seconds job ... just try for $ 0.00.

Cheers.

Thanks Jean, appreciated.

However, several questions :
1) You say "save as template" - what do you mean ? as I don't see any 'template' type in SMath.
Do you mean save as a normal file & treat this as a template for future use ? i.e. use this to start any new calc following with a 'Save as' ?

2) Can you explain, please, the relationship between the background image, the logo image, header text, and what 'pushes' the calculations down off the top of the page so that they paginate & flow correctly within the body of the calcs page.

Sorry if I've being a bit slow here .. but if you can provide detailed explanations step by step would be gratefully appreciated ..

3) I'm happy to send a sample calc page, but am not sure how to upload a resource .. as clearly you have done

Thanks
Geoff

=====================================

1. From a blank work sheet, compose your cartouche [logo, text project ...],
then "save as" My Cartouche [typical or else named per your preference]

3. When your read a forum message, you can select "Quick Reply" , you can only
reply by text. It has no option to upload document. If you want to reply and
upload a document [Smath work sheet, *.PDF, snippet image ...], go at bottom
right and click on the caption Post Reply. That will give the main forum menu
From the main menu, click on the Paper clip to bring the upload file system
From Add file, reach where your document is located in your computer ... double click
You can upload lot of different documents, within the forum acceptance documents don't sum > 5 MB.
Once you have finished adding document, click Upload files.
At this point, you can review the text message and stack the attachments ... click in the
front of each bracketed [Attach ... ] press Enter . That will stack the uploaded documents.

3. How to get the background color in the Picture region that composes your cartouche is
undocumented. I know how to do because I did, but don't recall ... stupid enough !
In the collapsed area, you can copy/paste this picture area in Smath blank sheet and
compose from there. Just brush the mouse pointer over that region [just to enter]
Click on the BackGround icon from the main menu and define your background color.
You can have 256^3 different colors [16777216 ... is that enough ?].

Please, don't hesitate for more information.

Hi Geoff, if you follow step-by-step procedure in the calculation book from my post you will have background image on every page you print

Tedds_Sample_Template_doc.docx (33kb) downloaded 55 time(s).

Hi .. & thanks for the info & sample file ..

However, something seems to be missing .. perhaps its me ??
Anyway, I can't get this to print as a header at the top of multiple pages .. even though using your Template ..sm file directly, & just adding in some simple text in to the body of the document .. ..

So, for clarification, please find attached :
  • sample (pdf) output file from a Tedds document
\
  • plain header template in .docx format

  • plain header template in .doc format

BTW: I've simply stripped out our company logo from the Word docs, so as to be more generic for the general SMath user .. as I see there is a bit of interest in this forum question.

Thanks
Geoff

As for now is not possible to add in the header/footer more that plain text and metadata placeholders. There are plans to make it better though, potentially editable in place (when the document is in pages view mode).
If you like my plugins consider to support SMath Studio buying a plan; to offer me a coffee: paypal.me/dcprojects

That was done in Mathcad 11 by adding some code in an added field in the header.
From recollection some code like " ...img\src ..." that would upload an image
from the resident Mathcad [could be a user image] but of size not higher than
the header height itself. As you say, only for preview/print.
Was done never used by Collabs.

Cheers Davide ... Jean

1. a new field in the extreme left of the header
2. in that new field the code >img src=/upload/*.gif
... * the file name

Template_Cartouche_2pages.pdf (48kb) downloaded 74 time(s).

For clarity, I've uploaded a pdf of what I referred to above .. i.e. no (spacious) header on the 2nd page at all ..
but my reading of your posts was that you had at least something ?

OK, a couple of thoughts :
a) Background image + 'non-calc region' : Is it possible to have a background image, plus some artifice to push the calcs down off this area ? e.g. background image would include the header region & (pre-populated) project info, & then have Page Nos etc in the [Page Setup] ?
I can do the background image .. but don't know how to have this full page but only allow calcs etc within the body area of the page

Cool Customised Plugin : In addition to comment above, I presume it would be possible to create a customised plugin to specifically address this problem ?
If so, could we commission such an item ? (obviously, for public use subsequently) .. and if so who would be best placed to undertake this ?

To re-iterate, we're really quite impressed with SMath .. & are keen to use it within our company, but the template - while just a 'hygiene' aspect, nevertheless is pretty impt for us ..

Thanks
Geoff

That's why your company cartouche should be as simple and unique/short
easy to update per project. Now, your idea of extending the image region
for the background is not a good one, considering that most if not all
projects do need some and many utilities to be easily accessible from
collapsed area. The Formated Label is convenient to be calored at will.
Superb for publishing, no sweat !

Thanks .. but adding in some further content doesn't appear to provide a (graphic) header on subsequent pages from what I could see ..

Can you please confirm that ? or am I missing something ?

IMHO, the background around the header stuff, just clogs the document.
Personally => I would not use for a plain cartouche.
Copy that top part, paste in blank sheet, remove the background region,
save as: Geoff Cartouche
From your file system, double click on Geoff Cartouche.sm to open,
Then copy that cartouche in new blank sheet that will now be your
project under development ... close the Geoff Cartouche to be
eternally re-used

Does it work for you ? Cheers ... Jean

Uh ..sorry, no.

We seem to be going in circles here .. but not getting to the essence of the question ..

Are you able to post a simple example, please, that will
- span multiple pages
- demonstrate a customised header at the top of each page
- demonstrated via posting both :
i. the base .sm file
ii. a pdf of the printed document
- preferably along the lines of the TEDDS document I uploaded previously.

Thanks
Geoff

1. From CutePDF
2. If you can't open the Smath document, you have serious problem.

The example below is what I do for a header on all my calculation sheets. It involves three items.
1. Blank calculation sheet with static information and company logo saved as a png image and inserted as a background for all pages.
2. A hidden area at the top of the first sheet with a matrix to store the header information to be placed on each page.
3. The use of formatted labels to place the information stored in the matrix on the calculation sheet in the appropriate spaces.

This is a pdf of an example calculation header sheet

Sample Calculation Paper.pdf (194kb) downloaded 118 time(s).

and this is the Smath file that created the sheet.

Sample Calculation Paper.sm (289kb) downloaded 82 time(s).

Any time I start a new calculation, I just open the above file, saveas under a new name, and start typing calculations.

Thanks. Interesting how you've combined a background image & data stored in a matrix.

Just one question : I assume you're 'manually' copying the formatted labels from page to page ?
.. i.e. if calcs remain 'static', the header alignment is AOK.
However, if content is inserted in e.g. page 1, the header content would have to be realigned on subsequent pages, right ?

Thanks
Geoff
