I get the following error: "Matrix must be square" when taking the SQRT of a single column Matrix.
Is there some way to do this calculation?

You may consider using lists (AKA "systems" ). If the input values are obtained as matrix, then the function sys2mat from the CustomFunctions
Plugin may help.
