Hello,
Can I have two vectors written in vector form F.1(vector)=F.1x(x unit vector, hat on top) + F.1y(y unit vector, hat on top) and another one, similarly. And add them, subtract them, multiply them (inner and outer products)
All written in vector notation?
Similarly, vector calculus operations.
Thank you, Basile

Very few characters support "circonflex"

Jean,
I was looking to do operations using vectors, like forces in Physics. Any idea?
Thank you, Basile

You can perform vector operations. See below. I don't think SMath has a way to put "hats" on the varaibles, but to Jean's point you can just use something from the character map. He used ALT+136 to get e_hat in his example. Edited by user 06 February 2017 00:29:53(UTC)

There are some obstacles when trying to do (symbolic) vector algebra and calculus in SMath. - You can't declare symbols as vectors or matrices (with non-commutative multiply. - Therefore, symbolic simplifications may fail or produce wrong results. - The cross product is overly picky about type of arguments, it requires expressions of type matrix. Even just multiplying by a scalar will break it. In the attached sheet, the attempt was made to solve some simple static problems using vectors. If numerical values are given, this works to a certain degree. The third, symbolic problem required a bit Maxima magic and manual copy and paste in order to get the solution. There are some pages on matrix/vector operations in the interactive handbook. 13 Gleichgewicht im Raum.sm (197kb) downloaded 38 time(s). |

Thank you All.
At this time, in my opinion, SMath cannot be used to solve problems using vector Algebra and Calculus that can be solved easily and presented nicely. Perhaps the developers may want to consider this option.
Thank you, Basile
