Yes, it is possible.

Create a text region as you normally would (i.e. using 'double quote' key). When you reach the end of a line, use Ctrl+Enter ( or Shift+Enter) to go to the next line. At this point, Smath has no automatic text wrapping.

Hello,

Yes, unfortunately there is no word wrapping. We should be careful when typing text lines in order not to pass over the right edge of the printing area. Print preview can help here.

Is this still true 4 years later? There are no plugins that provide a plain text box with word wrapping and non-monospace font, formatting of a few words and not others, etc?

Is currently under development (see here).
About the wrapping is a feature planned but I can't guarantee that this will be available soon.
