Hi Attached is a SMath file demonstrating steps in the simple design of a Concrete Lined Trapezoidal Open Channel. Very often, the Irrigation/Hydraulic Engineer is called upon to choose a suitable channel section from a set of different bed widths for economy and ease of construction. Other parameters such as bed slope and FSD are usually restricted by topography and level difference between the source and end point, and water surface elevations required at delivery points along the channel. Hence, this file may be useful for the designer as a guide to choose appropriate channel parameters of selected reaches along the length of the channel. Although the file appears to be long as all steps are explained, the designer may ammend it suitably by deleting unnecessary entries apprpriately, but carefully. Comments and suggestions are apprecited please. |

Lot of stuf turn red, mostly "Undefined"
Interesting but missing the "Abstract" to guide the reader. If you have no red in your work sheet and I have, it might be 1. Versions incompatibilty 2. Not exportable codes: during your construction, Smath may have lot of left over codes still productive in your work sheet but the transmission clears and zap in my work sheet.

All ok for me. Usually SMath Studio resolves all dependencies. |

Portable version: NO way If it does NOT work on PC, therefore from this forum it needs a new category in this forum.
Thanks for commenting.
Cheers.

The problem is no different today than in my young life [several decades ago], working paper/pencil on the drafting board. The trapezoidal is just another form of the partially filled pipe. Yes there are several dependencies [I don't trust my recollection on those]. All that stuff, you work unitless and the all lot should not expand over one Smath work sheet c/w the graph pertaining to the specific application project.
Be good, Collabs.

Hi The "Open Channel Design" file attached earlier had erros inside the program section in calculating the critical slopes for each bed width. The corrected program is attached now. Regret any inconvenience. Edited by user 18 October 2015 19:07:27(UTC)
