Hello,

first of all, thank you for the brilliant programme. I am planning to use it for education purposes. I teach some basic mechanics.
Beside being a very nice programme, its perfect as I can tell my students to download the programme and work/play with it by themselves without having problems with licenses.
Thank you for that. Clapping

Well, I am still a newbee and I am still having problems operating the programme.
I checked out the handbook as well as several postings here in the forum but I still did not get it ;-(

I try to use solve to calculate a couple of equations (eq).
  • The first thing i do not understand is that Smath doesnt recognice F1 as an unknown variable?
  • The second thing is that I can not solve the eqations Sad .
  • Finially I am looking for a way to substiute into formulas and then rearange formulas, automatically (If I got the postings right symbolical calculations are difficult, or?).

Does the Portable Version downloaded from that link (http://smath.info/wiki/SMath%20with%20Plugins.ashx) include maxima? or do i have to install maxima seperatly? It is written that everything is inclueded so i guess i do not have to install anything else.

I am using 0.97 (build:5346) (portable version)

Thanks for your time.

Robert

This is the file im using (there is some wording in german, but i guess its still clear what I try to do ;-)):

There are two mistakes in your sheet:
1. You became victim of the odd operator priorities, in particular, the assignment operator has higher priority than the boolean equal. Therefore, you have to set equations in brackets before assigning them to a variable.
2. you mis-spelled Solve(). solve() is the built in numeric procedure, Solve() is the function provided by the maxima plugin.

As to the portable version: It is as it is written there.

If you leave the input parameters undefined, you can get symbolic solutions.

Use Assign() for assigning the solution to the corresponding variables.

Use at() for substituting variables in expressions.

Thanks a lot for your help.
That's what I was looking for.

The Solve procedures are now working in my other examples as well!!
Clapping

But I do still have some problems with the at() function.

Two questions to my attached file:

  • What do I wrong in the first example?
  • Is there a way to put in values at the end to get a numerical solution?

Thanks again.

Robert
