The file is not an extension it is a snippet which is saved in the snippet folder. I'm just accessing it via tools->snippets (which brings up the extension manager or atleast that's what it appears to be called). thanks again

Go to "File > Properties > File attributes" and set a shortcut (i.e. masonry) and save the file.
