How to Compute Linear-System of Equations

My daughter is learning systems of equations. To check her work, I thought that I could just enter the equations in sMath and solve them instead of working through them by hand.
Unfortunately, sMath is balking with syntax error warnings or inaccurate answers.
I'd like to solve the first equation for "y," and then insert that into the next and solve for x. Then reinsert the x into y and then check everything.
I've tried several things -- I'm not new to sMath -- but nothing has worked.
I don't want to just solve with matrices or SymPy, as I need the intermediate steps.
If I cannot get this work, I will need to check all 25 of her problems by hand--ouch.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Shorten your discours, attach the document. From what you attempt explaining, Smath can inverse any function. Inversing a function is solving that function ... given 'y' solve for 'x'. Function that don't have inverse from Smath/Maple, can only be inversed from Smath recursive solver ... has not missed a single one yet ! Solve/inverse examples attached ...
