Hello,

I just reviewed the status of the keyboard shortcuts when using a german keyboard and german as front end language setting. There are some issues, partly with some Functions inaccessible or different to the dynamic hints in the sidepanel.

The hints on shortcuts in the sidepanel seem not to be part of the language file, at least I did not find them there. In that case, I could easily fix the inconsistencies by changing the language file.

Now, here is the list:

Missing hints in the sidepanel on access to

  • line function line(#;#;2;1)by ] (AltGr-9 on german keyboard)
  • boolean and by &
  • boolean or by | (AltGr-< on german keyboard)
  • nth root nthroot(#;#)by Ctrl-^
  • cross product by Ctrl-8

Ctrl-. should generate symbolic evaluation according to hint. Does not work.
Ctrl-\ should generate nth root. Does not work, \ is input on german keyboard as AltGr-ß, such that there is no chance to modify \ by Ctrl. However, Ctrl-^ does the job.

~ (AltGr-+) generates boolean equal #≡#.
1. Hint in the sidepanel says Ctrl-=, which does not work (Ctrl-= would be Ctrl-Shift-0 on german keyboard)
2. This masks out the access to absolute definitions. The ~ character must be input by cut and paste from text regions or elswere outside SMath.

I admit that these issues are just about usability for new and occasional users.

BTW, the front end settings for argument separators and decimal point seem to work independently of how the file was created. However, when copying expressions to the clipboard, the local settings are used instead of a consistent internal representation. When copying to the forum, then I have to manually change separators from , back to ;. Is there a simple way to avoid this (except running the frontend in standard settings)?

Best regards, Martin Kraska

This is fixed in 0.94 build 4544. The other issues of the original post remain open. Most of them could be fixed by changing language files, but part of the dynamic help strings seem to be language-independent. Thus there is the inherent danger of double-fixing dynamic hints. However, it might be sensible to do the temporary fix and remove it as soon as there is a generic one.

Thank you mkraska Offline . I'm thinking how this could be fixed in general.

Regards.
