Plugin updated with [[R] [G] [B] [A]] functionality. Use SMath 0.98 +.

Given the thematic of the example, Happy Birthday!!! (to whoever this would apply).

Test and report!

Viacheslav,

Given that rendering capabilities of the image region were expanded, could you take a look at the READRGB() function and similar?

Currently it takes 6 times longer to read the image from file than to render it.. Is there an opportunity for a little performance bump? Maybe using the newly baked Entry[] variable could help...

I am thinking of adding suport for CorelDraw .cdr file.. Primarily for the very neat "smart drawing" tool it has. For those who does not know smart drawing is a pencil like tool that will take your rough scribble and transform it into a vector rectangle, line, triangle, circle etc.

Now question to you guys - are you aware of any other software besides CorelDraw that can do that?

- Ziteboard has a shape recognition feature and allows to export drawings for free.

- Inkscape has a line/freehand drawing tool which you can even adjust the amount of smoothing you want before you draw the line.

- Gimp has a plugin called "Smooth Path" which I've never tried.

CorelDraw Essentials X6 is only $80 - reasonably priced.

Some more tools for you to investigate: microsoft onenote, grafio lite, sketchboard at sourceforge.net
Nice project to get started in programming. I guess that an easy way than using techniques like computer vision, learning machine, etc. could be a step to step menu guiding the user while he's drawing. Since you'd be drawing commands should have to be made by voice.

Coreldraw's smart drawing looks like a neat tool indeed.
Did Onenote work for you? The last version, for tablets at least, is said to support shape recognition.

=======================================

What I don't understand, but I don't have to understand: why that "Image region"
persists with "Art drawing stuff" ... that you pay $ or do nothing ... instead of
working with "Engineering CAD tools" and many are freeware, damned advanced, can
save *.dxf [Autocad].
I wonder who cares "Art Drawing" in a math tool like Smath ?

Hey guys lets not start another holy crusade here. Image region does dwg and dxf as well. And pixel perfect RGBA matrix rendering.

Kilele, I was on a quest to find perfect sketching tool for a while.. What I needed was to have software where I can pickup a (digital) pencil and draw freehand to get the creativity juices flowing. With its Smart Drawing CorelDraw works great for me.. better than anything else. I did not use One Note because it is broken on my PC. I do use CAD when I want to make some real sketches to scale, and will use CorelDraw for conceptual doodles (right now I am still using buebeam for that).

Which brings me to the point - .cdr is a blank file choice now. Since it is a proprietary file format it is rendered in SMath by saving a same named .svg, .png, or .pdf in either root folder of the .sm workbook or the "temp" folder in the AppData.

Good to hear!

To all - post examples of use for the RGBA rendering capability. I would love to see some practical use of the matrix rendering - right now I am not quite sure what else to do with it besides messing with test image files.

Alex,

Alex, can you make the double-click feature enabled just on the canvas of the region? It is really annoying while trying to edit the math content Laugh wild

Could you please provide an example? I have just opened my balloon test file and nothing happens if I double click anywhere on the region.. as it should be.

Not sure what happened... while editing the file for posting the screenshots the default viewer was launched several times, now I'm no more able to reproduce. Don't worry, if it will happens again I'll try to find the way to reproduce it. Grabli

Hello, Alex.

I've also reproduced it today but cannot say what exactly caused this. I've used many double-clicks on R, G and B variables inside the region and pressed Ctrl+C/V several times... First impression was that pressed Ctrl button broke the logic somehow.

Best regards.

Found it! Seems related to the exceptions

1. Add a region in the canvas;
2. add in the placeholder something like mat(identity(3),identity(3),identity(3),1,3);
3. change one of the RGB channels with a number (e.g. 1) -> mat(identity(3),1,identity(3),1,3);
4. double-click will launch the image viewer;

BTW, you should propagate the evaluation exceptions to the user, currently you can't notice when something fails in the evaluation...
