As an Electrical Engineer in Canada, I am using SMath since many years for all kind of personnal work. One feature that would increase the usefullness of SMath for me is to be able to select a PDF file as a Background image. Of course it would be great to have a SMath page created per each PDF pages.
The goal is to "SMath"[verb] selected formulas and graphs on top of the PDF document to experiment with results and to master its contents.
If I push it a bit, there are great apps that can read a formula from an image. So, it would be possible to select an area of the PDF document to instantly capture an image formula into a "SMath" formula.

Keep up the great work!!! I'm pretty sure this could be done quite easily with a plugin, because there are existing PDF-plugins and in the SMath Core documentation I've found a PagesOptions.SetBackground method: Code:public void SetBackground(

I would like to suggest making the "background image" to function like IRFANVIEW "overlay/watermark". I need to make some backgrounds translucent and I cannot find how to do this natively in SMATH. Hoping the IRFAN code is available since it's free too

Insert background [browse from file] 5. fit [it fits both directions] Now you have a translucent background, what's the use whereas you are back to native Smath ....... otherwise insert an RGB image from file, fit to stretch. If your original has pixels X,Y proportional to an Smath native pixels X,Y ... the image background will be nicely zoomed to the full work sheet size at highest quality similar to IrfanView HD TV quality. On the other hand, you can't use background to insert a logo image. For that, create a cartouche.

I need to make the image "translucent". I'd like the background feature to allow for making the image translucent. This is doable in Libre/Open Office, IrfanView, etc. They are working on the field and background features, so this would be a nice upgrade.

Like explained before, inserting background is translucent, i.e: like if it was not here. Then immaterial wrt Smath stuff. Please let us know if the attached has gray [228, 228, 175] background ... did the transmission preserved the background ?  Inst_Z Transform.sm (91kb) downloaded 15 time(s).

Hello: I think you have to use an image manipulation program like Gimp or Krita (both free). In the example published by Jean, I copied the image to Gimp, lower the opacity to 38% and save the image in PNG format. I have inserted the saved image as a background. A nice additional option would be similar to Mathcad: ordinary background adjustable RGB [Yellow corn, soft gray ...] Very useful to organize the regions, superb for publishing. Cheers ... Jean

You can have as many personalized background, even different for each page of the Smath document. Supplementary detail wrt image: The native Smath sheet is in close ratio 1 x 1.29 [width*height]. Thus: if you want best image as background, capture in rectangular ratio close to 1* ~ 1.3. Stretching will preserve this aspect ratio. WinGrab has the rectangular ratio in pixels. IrfanView and OpenOffice call it "translucent" and you called it "opacity" Jean, I know you are not a believer of this, but it's for a presentation and having their "logo" is required. Now to PDF and add this calculation to my slides.

I know you are not a believer of this, but it's for a presentation and having their "logo" is required.Now to PDF and add this calculation to my slides. Translucent = opacity = Gamma correction are synonymous. The technical term is Gamma correction [Irfanview, Wingrab, Mathcad]. 1. You can have the translucent background in 16777216 colors. 2. You can have the native logo wherever in that translucent work sheet. 3. For convenience: you can manipulate the logo color scheme. 4.
