optical illusionThe idea is taken from the site http://www.mapleprimes.com/mapl...71-Its-Better-With-MapleAlthough the vertical distance between the curves is constant, it seems that with increasing distance from the axis of Y, they are getting closer. Animation helps to overcome this optical illusion

Animation examples from the book “Introduction to Statics and Dynamics by Rudra Pratap, Andy Ruina.Publisher: Cornell University 2009” http://ruina.tam.cornell...k/RuinaPratap8-21-10.pdf A spring-mass system in spaceA spring-mass system consists of two masses, m1 = 10 kg and m2 = 1 kg, and a weak spring with stiffness k = 1N/m. The spring has zero relaxed length. The system is in 3-D space where there is no gravity. Track the motion of the system for the next 20 seconds. Plot the trajectory of the two masses in space. The 3-D animation showing the trajectory of the two masses obtained from the numerical solution . From the plot, it seems like the smaller mass goes around the bigger mass as the bigger mass moves on its trajectory. Edited by user 03 October 2013 15:20:20(UTC)
