Is there a way to solve symbolics?

e.g.

the ability to take an equation such as x^2-b=0 and output it in the form x=b^(1/2)

No, not yet. There is Xcas symbolic solver who can solve equations symbolically, but only available for SMath and some platforms at the moment.
